This will only help with those of you who forgot to already buy Christmas gifts, but I’ve been trying to build a collection of alternative shopping resources the last few weeks.* Here are a few, and if you’re familiar with others, I’d be interested to know about them:
Benefitting the poor in 2/3 world countries (generally an “in honor of” gift):
TEAR Australia
Heifer International
World Vision
Kiva (small loans)
Save the Children
Fair Trade/Alt Economics
a greater gift
Ten Thousand Villages
Heartbeats
No Sweat Apparel
People Not Profit
Handmade things and Productive Monastics
(The Handmade Pledge)
Etsy
Mystic Monk Coffee
Monastery Creations (soaps, candles)
The Abbey of New Clairvaux (vineyard)
Chimay (Trappist beers and cheeses)
Sacred Art & Artists
Trinity Stores
Hymnscript
Janet McKenzie
Michael O’Neill McGrath
Also, Advent Conspiracy (I’ve mentioned them before) has a great list of relational gift ideas.
H/Ts:
Steph
Out of the Depths
Civilization of Love
The Anchoress
Miller
*I worked on it one day several weeks ago, and then I waited around until now to post it.

Merry Christmas, Cap’n Family! We did our major Christmas shopping at Heifer Int’l. It was the best wad we’ve ever spent at Christmas. One of our family members got a flock of trees!
And I got some sheep…think of all the YARN from their shorn fleece that will make clothes, and blankets! What a marvelous gift!
I hope you check out WP’s most recent blog…it’s our “Sweetpea” at her best! She continues to astound me with her gift with words.
The comes with warmest wishes for a prosperous, healthy educational, sparkling and blessed new year. ( Wish I knew what Cap’n’ and family looked like – would love to put a face to your eclectic and informative blog)
Kel – thanks for the link!
Carolyn – congrats on the sheep! Thanks for the prompting to stop by Sweetpea’s Patch. Granny will be well remembered, I’m sure.
